We hope this guide provides some insight into the release history of Dynamics Nav (Navision). Much of this information has been sourced from WIKI Dynamics Book.

Where relevant we have also added the release notes in PDF form on the right hand panel.

December 2008

 

Dynamics NaV 2009 The first release of the Three Tier Client has been officially renamed to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 the release was announced in October 2008 at Convergence in Denmark.

This release was previously named Nav 6.0 and also includes the intended release Nav 5.01.

 

Dynamics Nav 5.0

from 2007

 

Dynamics Nav 5.0 SP1 - The most significant feature of this version, is that for the first time in the History of NAV, Sift Technology is no longer available. Instead Indexed views are used. This release is largely in prepartion for Nav 2009.

Dynamics Nav 4.0

from 2004

Dynamics Nav 4.0 SP3 - The release was significant for it key improvements to SQL performance and Security.

Dynamics Nav 4.0 SP2 - Although not actually a new version of Navision, this service pack was more than many new versions in Navision.

Dynamics Nav 4.0 SP1 - The key improvement of this release was the Employee Portal offering sharepoint integration.

Dynamics Nav 4.0 - Introduced the Menu Suite, which completely changed the menu structure of the product. This was the first step in making the menu role-oriented instead of functionality oriented. It was also key as it introduced the first stages of the .NET build.

Microsoft Business Solutions Navision 3.70

from 2003

Following the acquistion of Navision A/S by Microsoft the product renamed to from Navision Attain to Microsoft Business Solutions Navision.

MBS Navision 3.70B- Introduces Industry Template Solutions. Commerce Gateway supports Microsoft Biztalk Server 2004.

MBS Navision 3.70A- Mainly bugfix release. Many changes to Warehouse Management to improve integration & performance on SQL.

MBS Navision 3.70- 3.70 was a significant version release for Navision. with 3.70 and the service packs A and B, many of the bugs introduced since 3.00 were now resolved. This release introduced warehouse management to Navision.

 

Simplyd 3.0 Release Notes

Navision Attain 3.00

from 2001

Navision Attain 3.60- This release introduced numerous improvement and additional features. The key ones being the areas of Finance and Relationship management including MS Exchange email logging.

Navision Attain 3.10- The move to having Ledgers broken into two separate tables (one for the transaction it self, and one for the Accounting value) is finally solved and working. 3.10. Also this version offer the first indepth manufacturing module.

Navision Attain 3.01(A&B)- This version was mainly a huge series of bug fixes over version 3.00.

Navision Attain 3.00- The version appeared more to be a NSC Preview version to prepare staff for what was to come. It also introduced the Navision Application Server for managed external communication.

 

 

Navision Financials 2.00

from 1998

Navision Financials 2.65 - The first Commerce Gateway release.

Navision Financials 2.60M- 2.60M was 2.60 with the Manufacturing Add-On integrated.

Navision Financials 2.60AD- This was a limited release with Advanced Distribution as its key component.

Navision Financials 2.60- This was primarily a bug fix release from version 2.50. This version is widely accepted as one ofthe most stable product releases and included numerous SQL fixes.

Navision Financials 2.50- The SQL option for Navision is released. Initially Navision stated that the release of a SQL version was delayed to wait for SQL 7.0.

Navision Financials 2.01- This was limited to a service pack release from version 2.00

Navision Financials 2.00- EUR conversion and Y2K. 2.00 was virtually the version previously known as 1.40; the renumbering was done to indicate the importance of the Euro. Unofficially, it was pushed by some partners as the Year 2000 (Y2k) version even though ALL products from PC&C had always been Year 2000 compatible.

 

PC Plus, Navigator & Navision for Windows

from 1985

Starting in 1985 Navision (Dynamics Nav) began as a DOS based product release in Denmark. Progress onto 1990 when the first Client Server based system was released. The product continued to progress with the first windows release in 1992 and the product coming of age with release from version 2.00 above.
